I believe language is the foundation on which a successful piece of design is developed. Without a clearly stated concept and a thorough understanding of the problem at hand, the final results of a design can lack the power to provoke thought, to educate, to persuade, or even to successfully allow for basic communication among members of our increasingly global society. Clarity of design allows people to understand one another--it even has the power to make the world a better place.

I hold a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). As a graphic designer I've worked for a variety of high-profile design firms, and am currently a designer and art director at Chronicle Books in San Francisco, CA. My work has been showcased in various design publications such as Print, Communication Arts, Step100, and student work published in Type Design: Radical Innovations and Experimentation. Since 2003, I’ve held a seat on the RISD Alumni Association Board as co-director of Alumni Affairs for San Francisco/Bay Area. Outside of the office, I balance my time between freelance opportunities and various mediums of fine art, a strong passion of mine.

In September, I'll begin a two-year program at Yale University School of Art, where I'll earn a master of fine arts degree in graphic design.
